Beyond the Fields We Know is collection of short stories (along with a
few poems and one short play) selected from the works of Lord Dunsany.
Dunsany was one of the outstanding fantasists of the first half of this
century, though he is now little known. His stories are both elegant
and whimsical, but it is the language that is really distinctive, or, to
quote Ursula Le Guin, "completely inimitable". If you like Eddison or
Peake or Tolkien's
Silmarillion then you will enjoy Dunsany. If you
don't like fantasy or are only into bad five part imitations of
Lord of
the Rings then this isn't for you.
