The reader in Dear Reader is an e-book reader, which old-fashioned publisher Robert Dubois has been given instead of his familiar stack of manuscripts. He has to learn how to use that while he works around the new manager who has taken over his firm, trying to keep his authors happy — and while helping the latest crop of interns and enjoying good food.

Dear Reader is a light-hearted romp through the world of publishing and some of the new challenges it faces. It is written to an Oulipian constraint — maintained in this translation by David Bellos — but one sufficiently subtle I was unaware of it until I read the afterward.
