This collection of twenty essays covers the whole range of Maynard Smith's
work. It is divided into three sections:
- Population Genetics and Evolution Theory
- Adaptation, Constraints and Patterns of Evolution
- Evolutionary Ecology of Sex
The essays vary a lot in style and approach, but are generally pitched
at the level of biologists outside the particular field. Between them
they provide a good overview of current work in evolutionary biology.
