Use of Weapons is an addition to Banks' Culture novels, set in the
same universe as
Consider Phlebas and
Player of Games. It is a
more psychological novel than the others, with less dramatic action,
but offers a characteristic mix of technological ideas and light humour,
as well as some serious ideas about the ethics of war. The story is
black even for Banks, with a characteristically bleak ending.
